Wednesday night my boyfriend, my chihuahua and I land at LAX airport, Los Angeles, California.
Thursday morning, I get up and immediately feel the air of spring and see flowers everywhere as I drive through Beverly Hills. The weather is incredible, nothing beats California weather. It’s quite exciting to be back in Los Angeles. My first stop meeting up with friends in Beverly Hills and soon after The Hollywood Standard Hotel on Sunset Blvd, always one of my favorites. My boyfriend, my girlfriend, my dog Lola and I, all sit by the pool and have a great meal together. It feels great to be back.
After that, I head to Nick’s in Beverly Hills for cocktails and happy hour with more girl friends.
The weekend goes by fast. I visit with old friends, have two amazing dinners at Katana on Sunset blvd. Friday night a group of us hit Mood nightclub, which one of my best friends is promoting. At Mood we dance on top of our table as we drink champagne from the bottle throughout the night.
Saturday night I hit Club Aria with my boyfriend, and a couple of our friends. We dance and dance all night. By now Hollywood starts feeling like high school again and I start missing the intellectuality of the East Coast. However, one cannot complain, Saturday daytime was spent at Santa Monica beach and at the Promenade. The sun was shinning every where and the Pier in Santa Monica staged an amazing view of what California is really all about: Sun, water, sand, palm trees and beautiful people roller skating on the beach and everywhere.
I wake up Sunday with rashes all over my body. Hugh…? Who knows where this is coming from? Too much sushi?? Perhaps. It won’t stop me from picking my girls and driving back to Sunset for one last time of sun, champagne, and pool, a combination that always wins.
At night I go have dinner at Koi on La Cienega. I visit with my friend who is the owner of this fabulous restaurant in West Hollywood. I totally recommend the “Crispy Rice” and the black berry martini. One must not leave L.A. without visiting Koi at least once, but call and make reservations way in advance since the place is always packed and they won’t even let you in unless you have reservations.
Monday my trip is coming to an end. I have lunch with my best friend from Kabbalah. We go to Beverly Hills, Little Santa Monica Blvd. There are many great little restaurants perfect for lunch around this area. Soon after one of the highlights of my trips take place: heading to Sprinkles. Sprinkles have the best cupcakes in the world and yes they do beat Magnolia’s Bakery (featured in Sex and the City), in New York City. The line is always huge at Sprinkles, but it is totally worth it. My friend picks a Carrot Cake Cup Cake. My choice is the Red Velvet, it is unbelievable. It melts in your mouth. I could eat four at once but I stick with two. Lola eats her doggie cup cake with carrobs and peanuts, she loves it!
Monday : The night is young, but it is time to go. Time to head back to Boston, the coldest city I have ever lived in. While in Cali, I forgot about the cold weather in Boston. I forgot about snowstorms and cold ice rains, but as soon as I arrive back in the East Coast I can feel the cold cold weather deep inside reaching for my bones. Brrrrrrr…. Lola is so cold. We hop on a cab praying it will go fast enough so we can avoid being this cold as much as possible.
It’s nice to be back in my Boston apartment. To unpack and eat some home cooked food. I call my boyfriend who has been back for a couple of days now, but he says he is too busy to meet up.
I left the sun for the snow. The warmth for the cold. What does one not do for love?
